You would be better off in that case not eating much of anything beforehand - in the case of an 8 a.m. 5K you could probably get away with not eating anything for breakfast. If you want to eat something before running, I might suggest Belvita breakfast biscuits, or something similar.
Snickers are full of sugar, but not the good kind, because you'll only get energy for like 5mins and then you're crash! If you're looking for a snack to eat, then I would recommend fruit, as they release energy slowly and are not too filling!
